Curve Tray

Materials: Cardstock, magnets
Dimensions: 30cm x 40cm x 10cm
Curve Tray came about through experimentation with curved creasing. Usually, a curved fold/crease is used in ‘deployable’ technologies which allows a form with complex geometry to be quickly constructed. Using very thin 1mm magnets, Curve Tray snaps together in moments creating a complex form through two simple actions.

The tray is made of thick cardstock and can slide easily into a notebook or laptop sleeve, which is useful for people who change work environments often. The center mound naturally splits the tray in half, enabling a simplistic two-sided organization.

Curve Tray is part of an ongoing research project for a community organization that investigates products that can be manufactured from home. This meant the tray should efficiently be made with three tools: an exacto blade, something to score with, and a cutting template.
