A ubiquitous way to fasten paper to the wall is with a push pin, I thought it would be interesting to make a paper sconce that used that familiar action. Additionally the goal was to preserve the paperness of the paper. The result is a sort of half shade that emerges from a flat plane, partially still a sheet of paper and partially a three-dimensional shape.
The thick cotton-based paper is structured enough that it doesn't require an internal frame to prop it up, the scored pleats give the paper a line to bend on should it be bumped into or smushed. The shade is made with one piece using a sort of pop-up card logic and mounted to a thicker paperboard to stabilize it. Shown here in three different shades of printmaking paper meant to subtly contrast the colour that walls may be traditionally painted.
